What Does It Cost to Start a Self-Service Dog Wash? Cost Factors to Plan

Short answer: cost depends on scope, not a fixed list price

The cost of a self-service dog wash project depends on its scope, not on a fixed list price. The main drivers are the station format (all-in-one, dual-tub, dual-screen, split-type, wall controller or wash room), the selected care programs and dispensing, payment modules, equipment sourced locally, quantity and the site works arranged locally. Request quotations with the same scope.

This guide explains each cost driver so you can prepare a quotation request for a self-service dog wash (pet wash) station from the KingNeed Commercial Dog Wash Equipment range. It does not include prices or price estimates. If you have not chosen a format yet, start with How to Choose a Self-Service Pet Wash Station, then confirm configuration-dependent options and responsibilities against the selected product specification.

Station format and purchase scope

The format decides what the quotation covers: one integrated unit, a tub plus a control cabinet, a cabinet-only upgrade, a controller used with local equipment, or an enclosed room used with a machine. All six formats are part of the commercial dog wash equipment range:

Format KingNeed product Published purchase scope What to confirm in the quotation
All-in-one All-in-One Self-Service Pet Wash Machine One integrated unit: wash chamber, care programs, blow-dry control, 7-inch status screen and payment. Included programs and dispensing components, payment modules, screen language, utilities and cleaning access.
Dual-tub Dual-Tub All-in-One Self-Service Pet Wash Station Two stainless-steel wash tubs sharing one control and payment center. Space for two customers, bay assignment, and water, drainage and power for both bays.
Dual-screen Dual-Screen Smart Self-Service Pet Wash Station An integrated station with a large vertical touchscreen for the wash service and a separate front advertising display. Program list, language, planned advertising content and the content-update workflow.
Split-type Split-Type Self-Service Pet Wash Station A 304 stainless-steel wash tub plus a smart control cabinet, or the control cabinet alone to upgrade a compatible existing tub. Tub compatibility, cabinet location, plumbing and electrical interfaces and selected programs. The system boundary is defined in the quotation.
Wall controller Wall-Mounted Self-Service Pet Wash Controller A compact wall-mounted unit for wash-program control and liquid dispensing; the tub, storage water heater and pet dryer are sourced separately. Specifications of local equipment, electrical interfaces, mounting, commissioning and responsibility for locally purchased items.
Wash room Self-Service Pet Wash Room A modular enclosed room with entrance payment and automatic door access, designed to work with a compatible self-service pet wash machine. Whether the quotation covers the room, the wash machine or both; placement, drainage, utilities and access timing.

This table lists purchase scope only; it does not rank or price the formats. For fit-by-site guidance and the full program and payment comparison, see the pet wash station selection guide. Compare proposals with the same programs, payment methods and service scope, and confirm the final choice against your own space, demand and utilities.

Number of wash positions

Decide how many customers you want to serve at the same time. One position points to the all-in-one, dual-screen or split-type formats. Two simultaneous positions point to the dual-tub station, where two wash tubs share one control and payment center.

  • Two bays provide two service positions; actual throughput depends on customer demand, wash time, utilities and the operating arrangement. Use site data when planning capacity.
  • Water, drainage, power and cleaning access are needed for every wash position, so plan them for both bays.
  • Review bay assignment, utility supply and the offered control arrangement for the site.

Care programs, dispensing and consumables

Programs and dispensing components vary by format and configuration. They are configuration options, not standard equipment on every unit, so the quotation should list exactly which programs are included:

  • All-in-one and dual-tub: warm-water rinse, shampoo, conditioner, medicated-shampoo option, blow dry, tub-cleaning option, and stop or pause (all-in-one; the dual-tub station offers the same set on each wash side).
  • Dual-screen: warm-water rinse, shampoo, conditioner, treatment-solution option, blow dry, tub-sanitizing option, and stop or pause (dual-screen station).
  • Split-type: seven core pet-care services: warm-water shower, pet shampoo, conditioner, flea-treatment option, disinfectant option, blow dry, and self checkout (split-type station).
  • Wall controller: warm-water rinse, shampoo, conditioner, medicated-wash option, sanitize option, blow-dry control, and stop or pause, with liquid dispensing in the controller (wall-mounted controller).

The medicated, treatment, flea-treatment, disinfectant and sanitize entries are configurable service options only. Operators should select products and procedures appropriate for pets, local rules and professional guidance.

Consumables are an operating item to plan alongside the equipment. Specify consumables, dispensing settings and cleaning procedures before ordering, and confirm which programs, dispensing components and consumables are included in the offered configuration. The all-in-one machine is presented for 24/7 self-service operation; opening hours, supervision, cleaning and consumable refills are the operator’s decisions.

Payment modules and provider

Payment options are configuration choices that differ by format:

  • All-in-one: coin, banknote, credit-card, QR-code, cashless and contactless options.
  • Dual-tub: coin, bill, card, QR-code, NFC and other locally compatible payment methods in the shared payment center.
  • Dual-screen: coin, card and other compatible payment modules.
  • Split-type: coin, banknote, credit-card and QR-code payment modules.
  • Wall controller: coin, bill, card, QR-code and contactless/NFC modules.
  • Wash room: customers select wash time and pay by a supported method at the entrance.

The payment scope depends on the market. Provide the installation country, currency, intended payment methods and payment provider. Payment hardware, currencies and processing services should be confirmed for each deployment market. A screen does not establish local payment compatibility on its own; confirm the actual modules and regional integration before ordering.

Screens and on-site advertising

The screen arrangement is part of the format choice and of the content scope:

  • 7-inch status screen (all-in-one): presents operating status, wash steps, service selections and system information.
  • Service touchscreen (dual-screen): a large vertical touchscreen presents programs, pricing set by the operator, remaining time and guidance through a four-step self-service flow.
  • Front advertising display (dual-screen): a separate display presents brand, promotion and pet-service content.

On the dual-screen station, displayed content can be updated for different stores and campaigns through the supported content workflow; no remote cloud-management capability is assumed. Agree the hardware and content-delivery scope for the project. Remote management is not described on the published pet wash pages; confirm with KingNeed if required.

Locally sourced equipment and integration responsibility

The wall-mounted controller is designed to work with compatible locally sourced storage water heaters, pet dryers and pet wash tubs, subject to installation and electrical compatibility requirements. Define which parts KingNeed supplies and which tub, heater, dryer and connections are provided locally, so the quotation and the local purchases do not overlap or leave gaps.

  • Send the proposed tub, heater and dryer specifications so compatibility and control interfaces can be reviewed.
  • Treat local sourcing as a defined integration project, not plug-and-play.
  • Agree electrical interfaces, mounting, commissioning checks and responsibility for locally purchased equipment.
  • Request the final scope before shipment.

Integration responsibility differs by format: the selection guide rates it lowest for the all-in-one machine, moderate for the split-type station and highest for the wall-mounted controller. This describes the integration work to coordinate, not price. For the full checklist, see Dog Wash Controller and Local Equipment Integration.

Enclosed wash room

The Self-Service Pet Wash Room adds an enclosed wash space with entrance payment and automatic door access: customers select wash time and pay at the entrance, after which the access system unlocks the door for entry. The room does not perform the wash itself; it is designed to work with a compatible self-service pet wash machine inside.

  • Confirm whether the quotation includes the cabin, the wash equipment or both.
  • Plan the cabin layout, door access and customer circulation.
  • Review placement, drainage, utilities, access and the planned operating arrangement.
  • Agree entrance payment, access timing and cleaning or service procedures.

Site works and utilities you arrange locally

Site works are arranged by the operator at the installation site and should be budgeted as separate items. Record these for every wash position, then request the electrical, water, hot-water and drainage requirements for the selected model:

  • Water supply for each tub or bay.
  • Hot-water arrangement, including a locally sourced storage water heater where the wall-mounted controller is used.
  • Drainage for each wash position and for an enclosed room.
  • Electrical supply for the station, controller and any locally sourced dryer or heater.
  • Placement: floor space for integrated stations (the all-in-one and dual-tub stations use locking casters), a wall for the controller, and tub position, cabinet location and utility routing for the split-type station.
  • Cleaning and maintenance access for daily cleaning and service.

Ask the supplier to state the supplied configuration, installation interfaces, maintenance access and service scope, so you can see which items are in the quotation and which are local works.

OEM/ODM branding, language, programs and settings

Customization is another scope item. Project options published across the range include:

  • Appearance and branding; on the split-type station, cabinet colors, graphic wraps, materials, finishes and branded graphics.
  • Language interface.
  • Wash programs, water-temperature and time settings, and additional functions.
  • Cleaning combinations, wash process, value-added functions and operating logic (split-type).
  • Payment methods.
  • Advertising content (dual-screen).

State the OEM/ODM scope in the quotation request so each supplier quotes the same customization items.

Starting small: one position or a cabinet upgrade first

A project does not need every format or program on day one. Ways to keep the first phase focused:

  • One wash position: start with a single all-in-one, dual-screen or split-type station and a defined program list.
  • Cabinet upgrade: if you already own a compatible wash tub, the split-type control cabinet can upgrade it instead of a complete system.
  • Room later: the modular pet wash room can support new projects or site upgrades when paired with a compatible self-service pet wash machine and required utilities.

List the positions, programs or room you may add later, confirm they are compatible with the selected equipment, and reserve space and utilities for them when planning the site.

How to request a comparable quotation

Quotations are easier to compare when each one answers the same scope. Send:

  1. Installation country, currency and planned purchase quantity.
  2. Site layout and the number of wash positions.
  3. Equipment you already have (for example, an existing tub) and equipment you plan to source locally.
  4. Available utilities: water supply, hot-water arrangement, drainage and electrical supply.
  5. Required functions: care programs, dispensing and drying.
  6. Payment methods and payment provider.
  7. Integration scope, including any enclosed wash room.
  8. Screen language, branding and advertising content.

Ask each supplier to confirm the supplied configuration, installation interfaces, maintenance access and service scope, and to define the system boundary in the quotation.

How much does a self-service dog wash station cost?

Cost depends on the project scope, not on a fixed list price. The main drivers are the station format, the selected care programs and dispensing, payment modules, equipment sourced locally, quantity and the site works arranged locally. Send these inputs for a project quotation through the Commercial Dog Wash Equipment page.

Is there a fixed price list?

Stations are quoted per configuration rather than from a fixed price list. The format, care programs, dispensing, payment methods, screen language, branding and integration scope are selected for each project, and a quotation is prepared for the selected configuration, installation country and quantity.

What increases the cost of a dog wash project?

Added scope. Each added wash position, care program, payment method, wash room or customization item is an extra line to define, as is a higher quantity. Site works such as water supply, hot-water arrangement, drainage, electrical supply and cleaning access are arranged locally and should be budgeted separately.

Is a dryer or water heater included?

It depends on the format. The all-in-one machine integrates blow-dry control and the dual-tub station lists a blow-dry program, while the wall-mounted controller is designed to work with a locally sourced storage water heater and pet dryer. Record the hot-water arrangement for every wash position and confirm the supplied components in the quotation.

Can I start with my existing tub?

Yes, subject to compatibility. The split-type station offers a control-cabinet upgrade for a compatible existing tub; review the tub, plumbing, electrical interfaces and selected programs before confirming a retrofit. The wall-mounted controller is also designed to work with compatible locally sourced tubs.

What should I send to get an accurate quotation?

Send the installation country, planned quantity, site layout, existing equipment and utilities, plus the intended wash menu, payment methods and provider, integration scope and branding needs. Ask for the supplied configuration, installation interfaces, maintenance access and service scope in writing.
