How Does a Self-Service Dog Wash Station Work? Payment, Wash Programs and Operator Setup

What is a self-service dog wash station?

A self-service dog wash station is a wash tub with a control and payment unit. The customer pays, selects a program such as warm-water rinse, shampoo, conditioner or blow dry, washes the dog with the spray gun and finishes or pauses. The operator configures programs, payment, language and settings. The customer washes the pet; the station does not wash automatically.

This guide explains the customer workflow and the operator setup behind the KingNeed Commercial Dog Wash Equipment range of self-service dog wash (pet wash) stations. It describes published programs and options only; it does not cover wash times, water temperatures or running costs. To compare formats side by side, see How to Choose a Self-Service Pet Wash Station.

KingNeed publishes six formats in its commercial dog wash equipment range. They share the same self-service idea but split the tub, controls and payment differently:

Every station serves two roles. The customer pays, selects programs and washes the dog. The operator sets up what the station offers:

Operator setting What is configured
Wash programs Enabled wash and care programs, dispensing and drying, according to the format
Payment Payment modules, payment provider and currency for the installation market
Screen and language Interface language and user guidance; advertising content on the dual-screen station
Settings Water-temperature and time settings, appearance and branding (OEM/ODM project options)

The customer workflow in four steps

The product pages describe a simple four-step operation. On the all-in-one machine, the customer chooses a payment method, selects the required wash program, places the pet in the chamber and starts the wash:

  1. Pay. The customer chooses one of the payment methods configured for the site and makes payment.
  2. Select a program. The customer selects the required wash program on the screen or program panel.
  3. Wash. The customer places the dog in the tub or chamber, starts washing and uses the spray gun with the configured services. The all-in-one machine has an integrated adjustable spray gun and a transparent chamber window that helps users observe the washing process.
  4. Finish or pause. The customer finishes with rinsing, conditioning or drying, or uses stop or pause where it is configured.

The other formats publish the same sequence with small differences:

Format Published workflow
Dual-tub Customers make payment, select a suitable program, start washing with the configured services, and finish with rinsing, conditioning or drying.
Dual-screen The touchscreen presents programs, pricing set by the operator, remaining time and guidance through a four-step self-service flow.
Split-type Users select a service, make payment, start washing, and finish the service through the self-service workflow; self checkout is part of the service menu.
Wall controller Users make payment, select a wash program, start washing, and finish with drying through a guided sequence.
Wash room Customers select wash time and pay at the entrance, enter, use the compatible machine inside, then leave the room ready for the next service cycle.

The customer does the washing; the station runs the selected program. Confirm the programs, payment methods and service-time setup for the selected configuration.

Wash and care programs a station can offer

Program names differ slightly between formats. They are configuration options, not standard equipment on every unit, so not every program is included in every build:

Format Published care programs
All-in-one Warm-water rinse, shampoo, conditioner, medicated-shampoo option, blow dry, tub-cleaning option, stop or pause
Dual-tub Same program set on each wash side: warm-water rinse, shampoo, conditioner, medicated-shampoo option, blow dry, tub-cleaning option, stop or pause
Dual-screen Warm-water rinse, shampoo, conditioner, treatment-solution option, blow dry, tub-sanitizing option, stop or pause
Split-type Seven core pet-care services: warm-water shower, pet shampoo, conditioner, flea-treatment option, disinfectant option, blow dry, self checkout
Wall controller Warm-water rinse, shampoo, conditioner, medicated-wash option, sanitize option, blow-dry control, stop or pause
Wash room Provided by the compatible pet wash machine used inside the room

The medicated, treatment, flea-treatment, disinfectant and sanitize entries are configurable service options only. Operators should select products and procedures appropriate for pets, local rules and professional guidance.

Drying works differently by format: the all-in-one machine integrates blow-dry control, while the wall-mounted controller lists blow-dry control and is designed to work with a compatible locally sourced pet dryer. Confirm which programs, dispensing components and consumables are included in the offered configuration.

What the screen shows

The screen guides the customer through the workflow. Two screen arrangements are published:

  • 7-inch status screen (all-in-one): presents operating status, wash steps, service selections and system information. Customers choose the required programs through the self-service interface.
  • Service touchscreen (dual-screen): a large vertical touchscreen is dedicated to service selection, pricing set by the operator, remaining time and operating guidance.
  • Front advertising display (dual-screen): a separate front display presents brand, promotion and pet-service content, keeping operation and advertising functions distinct.

On the dual-screen station, displayed content can be updated for different stores and campaigns through the supported content workflow; no remote cloud-management capability is assumed. Interface language is a published customization option across the range; confirm the language, program list and service settings for the supplied station.

How payment works

Published payment options across the range include coin, banknote or bill, credit card, QR code, cashless, contactless and NFC, depending on the format. The pet wash room uses entrance payment: customers select wash time and pay by a supported method at the entrance. For the payment options of each format, see the pet wash station selection guide.

The payment scope depends on the market. Provide the installation country, currency, intended payment methods and payment provider. A screen does not establish local payment compatibility on its own; confirm the actual modules and regional integration before ordering.

Two dogs at once: dual-tub shared control and payment

The dual-tub station has two stainless-steel wash tubs sharing one control and payment center. Each wash side can provide the same program set as the all-in-one machine through the configured program panel (see the programs table above).

  • Two bays provide two service positions; actual throughput depends on customer demand, wash time, utilities and the operating arrangement. Use site data when planning capacity.
  • Plan two customer positions, tub access and site circulation.
  • Review bay assignment, utility supply and the offered control arrangement for the site.

How it works with a separate cabinet or wall controller

Not every station is a single integrated unit. Two formats separate the controls from the tub:

  • Split-type station: the split-type station combines a 304 stainless-steel wash tub with a separate smart control cabinet. Buy the complete system, or use the control cabinet to upgrade a compatible existing tub. The tub is published with a high splash guard, pet restraint straps and anti-slip access steps.
  • Wall-mounted controller: the wall-mounted controller integrates wash-program control and liquid dispensing in a compact wall-mounted unit. It is designed to work with compatible locally sourced storage water heaters, pet dryers and pet wash tubs, subject to installation and electrical compatibility requirements.

For the customer, the workflow is the same: pay, select a program, wash and finish. For the operator, local sourcing should be treated as a defined integration project. Send the proposed tub, heater and dryer specifications so compatibility and control interfaces can be reviewed, and agree electrical interfaces, mounting, commissioning checks and responsibility for locally purchased equipment. See Dog Wash Controller and Local Equipment Integration for the full checklist.

How an enclosed pet wash room works

The Self-Service Pet Wash Room adds a payment-first entry sequence around a compatible self-service pet wash machine:

  1. The customer selects wash time and pays by a supported method at the entrance.
  2. Successful payment triggers the configured door-access system, which unlocks the door for entry.
  3. The customer enters and washes the dog with the compatible self-service pet wash machine inside.
  4. The customer exits, leaving the room ready for the next service cycle.

The room provides the enclosed wash space, with a tempered-glass door, sealed wet-area design and drainage support; it does not perform the wash itself. Confirm whether the quotation covers the cabin, the wash equipment or both, and confirm the service-time and access-control arrangement for the supplied room.

What the operator sets up and maintains

The operator decides what the station offers and how the site runs. Project options published across the range include:

  • Appearance and branding.
  • Language interface.
  • Wash programs, water-temperature and time settings, and additional functions.
  • Cleaning combinations, wash process, value-added functions and operating logic (split-type).
  • Payment methods.
  • Advertising content (dual-screen).

Day-to-day operation is also the operator’s responsibility. Confirm consumables, dispensing settings and cleaning procedures for the delivered system. The all-in-one machine has smooth wet-area surfaces designed for routine wipe-down and upkeep, and the all-in-one and dual-tub stations list a tub-cleaning option; for a wash room, plan cleaning, consumables and cabin maintenance around the site’s operating hours.

The all-in-one machine is presented for 24/7 self-service operation; opening hours, supervision, cleaning and consumable refills are the operator’s decisions. Remote management is not described on the published pet wash pages; confirm with KingNeed if required. For how these choices shape project scope, see Self-Service Dog Wash Startup Cost Factors.

How does a self-service dog wash work?

The customer chooses a payment method and pays, selects a wash program on the screen or program panel, places the dog in the tub and washes it with the configured services, then finishes with rinsing, conditioning or drying, or pauses. The operator decides which programs, payment methods, language and settings the station offers; see the pet wash station selection guide to compare formats.

Does the machine wash the dog automatically?

No. A self-service dog wash station is customer-operated: the customer pays, selects each program and washes the dog with the spray gun, while the station runs the selected program and the screen guides the steps. An enclosed pet wash room does not perform the wash either; it is designed to work with a compatible self-service pet wash machine inside.

What does the screen show?

On the all-in-one machine, the 7-inch status screen presents operating status, wash steps, service selections and system information. On the dual-screen station, a large vertical touchscreen presents programs, pricing set by the operator, remaining time and guidance through a four-step self-service flow, and a separate front display presents brand, promotion and pet-service content. Confirm the language and program list for the supplied station.

Can two dogs be washed at the same time?

Yes, with the dual-tub station: two wash tubs share one control and payment center, and each wash side can provide the same program set. Two bays provide two service positions; actual throughput depends on customer demand, wash time, utilities and the operating arrangement, so use site data when planning capacity.

Do customers need staff help?

Not to run the wash. The stations are designed for a self-service flow: the screen or program panel guides payment, program selection and finishing. Whether a site is supervised, and who handles cleaning, consumable refills and servicing, is the operator’s decision for each site.

Can I manage the station remotely?

Remote management is not described on the published pet wash pages; confirm with KingNeed if required. On the dual-screen station, advertising content is updated through the supported content workflow, and no remote cloud-management capability is assumed.
