This FAQ gives short answers on KingNeed distributed solar storage: retrofit, compatibility, capacity, control, applications, local assembly, quotations and module-level devices. For the three published configurations, see the Distributed Solar Energy Storage series page and the selection guide. Answers are drawn from published KingNeed pages and must be confirmed for the selected configuration and site.
The answers give no capacity, electrical values or prices. The public concept pages do not support a universal capacity or compatibility promise, so request the model-specific technical documents and a project-specific quotation for the selected configuration.
Basics: distributed, panel-level and module-side storage
What is distributed solar storage?
Distributed solar storage places storage units at the PV side of a solar system, close to the modules that generate solar power, rather than grouping storage in a single location. The configuration is planned around the array, energy path and intended use; see How Module-Level Solar Storage Works.
What is panel-level energy storage?
The Panel-Level Distributed DC Energy Storage System places independent storage units beneath selected solar panels to create a distributed DC storage architecture. Its page describes low-voltage DC architecture, a retrofit approach, modular expansion and planning for telecom sites and commercial rooftops; see the panel-level DC energy storage system.
How do the three KingNeed storage configurations differ?
KingNeed presents a PV-side distributed energy storage system, a panel-level distributed DC energy storage system that places storage beneath selected PV panels, and a distributed PV energy storage bar that presents module-side storage for phased projects. Compare them by installation location, the selected PV modules, retrofit scope and assembly model in the PV-Side and Panel-Level Solar Storage: Selection Guide.
Retrofit: adding storage to an existing PV system
Can I add storage to an existing solar PV system?
Yes, for selected retrofit projects, which can be reviewed against the existing array, inverter, protection, wiring and mounting conditions. Compatibility and required changes are confirmed for the specific site; the retrofit checklist for an existing solar PV system lists what to document.
Does adding storage mean rebuilding the solar array?
Not necessarily: the panel-level concept adds storage beneath selected PV panels without rebuilding the entire solar system. Compatibility and required changes are confirmed for the specific site; see the Distributed Solar Energy Storage series page.
What should be confirmed before a solar storage retrofit?
Send the existing PV topology, module information, mounting layout, site conditions and operating objectives, then confirm integration with existing equipment, the offered capacity and interfaces, commissioning checks, local compliance and responsibility for locally assembled components. For an evaluation method that separates confirmed facts from items that still require verification, see Evaluating Low-Voltage DC Retrofit Opportunities.
Compatibility: inverters, panels and arrays
Will it work with my existing inverter?
Inverter compatibility is not universal. Share the inverter model and system details so the interfaces and proposed operating arrangement can be reviewed; the retrofit checklist lists the other system details to document.
Does under-panel storage fit every PV panel?
Not automatically: the panel-level page describes storage beneath selected panels. Confirm the mounting arrangement and selected module and equipment requirements for the actual site; see the Panel-Level Distributed DC Energy Storage System.
Can storage bars be installed on every solar array?
Not automatically: the storage bar page describes selected retrofit applications. Confirm module layout, mounting, electrical interfaces and the offered equipment before choosing an installation scope; see the Distributed PV Energy Storage Bar.
Capacity, ratings and expansion
What storage capacity should I use for a project estimate?
Use the ratings and operating limits for the selected configuration; no single capacity or performance figure applies to every project. Share the project requirements to request the relevant model-specific technical information for the PV-Side Distributed Energy Storage System or the other selected configuration.
Does each storage bar have a standard capacity?
No standard capacity per bar is stated: the storage bar page describes adding units in project-defined stages, and the phased expansion concept is not a stated capacity rating. Request model-specific capacity and electrical ratings for the Distributed PV Energy Storage Bar.
Can more storage be added later?
Yes, in project-defined stages: begin with selected panels or modules and define the first-stage scope, operating requirements and review criteria before expansion. Before expanding, review usable capacity, electrical limits, protection, control interfaces and installation scope, because modular expansion still requires an approved project design; see How Module-Level Solar Storage Works.
Control, monitoring and protection
What controls the storage units?
Control scope is defined for each project: the available EMS, edge gateway and communication arrangement is reviewed as part of the system scope, together with the optimizer, BMS and protection components. Capacity, expansion limits and included control functions are defined for the selected equipment; see the PV-Side Distributed Energy Storage System.
Which control, communication and protection components are included?
It depends on the chosen configuration: EMS and edge gateway options, wireless communication and the protection components included in the selected configuration are confirmed for the proposed system. Request a project-specific parts list rather than assuming every component shown in concept graphics is included; see the selection guide.
Who is responsible for protection and isolation?
Protection and isolation responsibilities are confirmed for each project, together with the DC voltage and current interfaces and the retained equipment. Identify which interfaces change, where protection responsibility sits and which party will approve the final design; see Distributed DC Micro Storage for Modular Energy Architectures.
Applications
Where is distributed solar storage planned?
KingNeed discusses commercial rooftops, existing PV installations, telecom sites, industrial loads and other distributed solar projects, and the storage bar supports rooftop, commercial and PV-plant retrofit planning. Share the generation profile, loads, site conditions and intended operating role so the project scope can be defined; see the PV-Side Distributed Energy Storage System.
Can it be used at telecom sites?
Yes, telecom sites are among the published planning scenarios; verify the load profile, DC interfaces, required operating role and maintenance conditions before defining a configuration. Planning starts with the site load, existing DC equipment, operating requirements and maintenance access and leads to a site-specific configuration; see Micro Storage for Telecom and Remote-Site Power Design.
How is storage planned for a commercial rooftop?
Planning begins with measured PV generation, site loads, operating hours and installation constraints. A rooftop project brief covers PV production and load data, existing module and inverter models, roof layout and access conditions, and the proposed storage role, control responsibility and first-stage deployment scope; see Applying Distributed Micro Storage in Commercial and Industrial Solar Design.
Component export and local assembly
Can solar storage components be exported for local assembly?
Yes, for selected solar-storage projects: the supply can be scoped around storage modules, optimizers, controllers and communication components, with the final bill of materials and local work scope agreed for the selected configuration. Component export alone does not establish compatibility with every PV installation; see Solar Storage Component Export and Local Assembly.
Who is responsible for quality when components are assembled locally?
Responsibilities are documented for each project: ask for the applicable assembly instructions, inspection points, functional checks and support arrangements available for the selected project. Document who is responsible for local sourcing, assembly workmanship, commissioning and after-sales support, as described in the local assembly guide.
Which certification and compliance requirements apply?
Confirm certification and local compliance requirements for the actual configuration and destination. The published pages do not state which requirements apply to a project, so raise them early in the project review; see Solar Storage Component Export and Local Assembly.
Cost and quotation
How is a distributed solar storage project quoted?
On its scope, not a fixed list price: share your installation country, site layout, required functions, integration scope and purchase quantity, together with existing PV module and inverter models and the intended role for storage. Solar Storage Project Cost Factors explains the configuration, retrofit, supply-route and commissioning items that shape the quotation.
Optimizers and rapid shutdown
What does a PV optimizer do?
The PV Digital Optimizer provides configured module-level MPPT designed for shading, mismatch and other panel-level differences, with a one-to-two dual-panel input where the selected wiring and model support the arrangement. It is a separate module-level device from the storage units and is selected around the module specification, inverter and array design.
What does a PV rapid shutdown device do?
The PV Rapid Shutdown Device provides an independent module-level shutdown path that reduces module-side DC output after a configured trigger. Confirm the trigger arrangement, measured voltage and shutdown time for the selected device and complete installation.
